Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, who performs simply as Adele, was born on May 5, 1988, in England. Shortly after posting her music on Myspace, she caught the attention of XL Recordings, who offered her a recording deal. Adele released her debut album 19 in 2008, which featured the hit single “Chasing Pavements” about a boy that she was interested in. The album went quadruple platinum in the UK and double platinum in the United States. She was then honored at the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Adele released her sophomore album 21 in 2011, earning her six Grammy Awards just after it was made available and went 16 times Platinum in the UK. Internationally, 21 sold more than 28 million copies. Her album was carried by the smash hits “Rolling in the Deep”, “Someone Like You”, and “Set Fire to the Rain”. She was later named Billboard Artist of the Year as well as one of Time Magazine’s most influential people in the world.
