Sam Esmail

Sam Esmail is an American screenwriter, film and television director, and producer born in Hoboken, New Jersey on September 17, 1977. He is best known for writing and directing the popular television show Mr. Robot and for directing the television series Homecoming, starring Julia Roberts. While in high school, he would hold Stanley Kubrick film festivals in his house. He produced his first short film in 2002 titled The Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special and in 2004 he directed the short film Deep Down in Florida. In 2008 his first feature films screenplay, Sequels, Remakes & Adaptations, was put on the Blacklist. In 2014 he made his feature-length directorial debut with the film Comet. That same year he was a writer for the film Mocking Bird and in 2016 he was the executive producer for the documentary Risk. Esmail created, produced, and directed the television show Mr. Robot, which premiered in 2015, and ran until 2019. In 2018 he became the director and executive producer for the show Homecoming. Throughout his career he has been nominated for a number of awards and has won a Writers Guild Award, a Golden Globe Award, an American Film Institute Award and more.
